Christopher Paolini’s new book, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, to come out in the fall of 2020

A long time has past since Christopher Paolini, the author of the popular fantasy series, Aragon, has appeared on SFF Planet. The boy wonder of fantasy literature has not been a boy for a very long time, and sporting an impressive beard, started making headlines all over the web. The marketing campaign for the publishing of his new book, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, has been launched.

Paolini makeover, it seems, is no limited to his appearance, but involves also his genre of choice. Therefore, he left behind the realms of fantasy and dragons and switched to space, spaceships and aliens. On the author’s website the subtitle invites Paolini’s readers to join him on this new journey: “You flew on the wings of dragons, now soar into a sea of stars . . .” The story itself promises to be of “enormous intergalactic weight and consequence, but also of deeply personal human strength, compassion, and awe.” But is the book about?

Synopsis

During a routine survey mission on an uncolonized planet, xenobiologist Kira Navárez finds an alien relic that thrusts her into the wonders and nightmares of first contact. Epic space battles for the fate of humanity take her to the farthest reaches of the galaxy and, in the process, transform not only her—but the entire course of history.

According to Paolini, he came to write his first science fiction book because her really wanted to capture the sense of wonder he feels when looking up at the stars at night, as well as the sense of optimism he feels when imagining humanity’s future as it expands into space. And he doesn’t only come across as enthusiastic. According to the author, he spent more than seven years working on the book, understanding the science, the characters, and most importantly the story itself.

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is set to arrive to bookstores in the US on September 15th, 2020. Although the cover has not been revealed yet, of course we will keep an eye out from SFF Planet, and report on any interesting developments.
